Hi all,
Well, I couldn't get microsoft reader to work, so I'm trying to work with adobe acrobat reader, to hopefully read ebooks on the fictionwise site I joined a few weeks ago. I downloaded a couple of free ebooks, but only one of them is available in pdf format. Unfortunately, when I try to read the book I downloaded in adobe reader, the stupid graphics hide most of the text, so it gets chopped off, and skips sentenses. I've tried both inferring reading order from document, and left to right, top to bottom in reading preferences, but neither works. I saved the document in pdf format, hoping it would just save the text and not the graphics, but then all it read was the copy right notice. I saved it as a text file, which made it possible to read the text, the only problem is in a word processor like notepad or wordpad, there are no such things as bookmarks, so if it were a long book, I couldn't save my place. Does any jaws user know how I can get it not to show the graphics, make the graphics smaller? so I could read pdf books with the graphics covering up most of the text? all full screen does is bring up that irritating copyright notice. Thanks,
wonderwoman
Check your preferences and make sure the splash screen is turned off, the web browser plug-in is turned off, and make sure you've clicked I Accept when the license agreement screen comes up. Also make sure your window is maximized. Finally try moving away from the window with alt-tab and moving back to it.
I don't have any plug ins, just the acrobat reader, but I'll try alt tabbing back and forth, but I really think it's just a case of the graphics covering the text. My mom couldn't see all the text any more than jaws could. I knew something was blocking the text, but I didn't know what, until she came in, and told me there was a picture of a door. I think it was probably the book cover or something. I think most books or magazine have some cover illustrations or something like that.
